He Cake in Hebrew Class (or perhaps more appropriately, "A Farewell to Harvey")

On Monday, our Hebrew professor slipped that his birthday was on Wednesday. Big mistake! "Well what's a birthday without cake!?" Kelly, Jake, and I thought. So on Tuesday night, the three of us had a fun adventure baking Prof. S. a cake. And not just ANY cake, but a He (pronounced "hay") Cake.

While the cake was cooling, we wanted to find Prof. S. some fun Hebrew/Jewish gifts. Since this is a fairly concentrated Jewish area, this should be an easy task, right? We thought so, too. Well, we went to Cedarburg. We went to Mequon. We went to Grafton. NOTHING. Not even a dreidel! That left us with one alternative: Harvey.

Harvey is our dancing Rabbi who stands on top of our tv--a gift from Katy last year. Activated by a *clap* Harvey dances to the tune of Hava Nagila! Story cut short, Prof. S. is now the proud owner of Harvey, who was dancing beside the He cake as we brought it (candles and all) into Wednesday's class.

Farewell, Harvey. We'll miss you! (Except for Dave. Busting out Hava Nagila every time we turned on the tv, Harvey came awfully close to getting smashed with a golf club last year. I'm sure he'll be safer in his new home.)

Terribly awesome! Haha!

But N and I are confused: why "He?"

Yes, I must ask ... what is a He cake?

Well, we had to pick a Hebrew letter. Originally, actually, we were going to make an ALEP cake, just because that's the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

But, one cake wasn't enough to make an ALEP. So we baked another cake. Then...we had way too much cake on hand, plus we decided it'd be much easier to make a HE. (Kat, a HE is the Hebrew letter for our "h"...so our cake was in the shape of this letter, plus an exclaimation point!)

This was perfect for class because, if you know "Hava Nagila," at the end of every verse everyone shouts "HEY!"

:-)

I need to get a life.

I concur with the last statement... you do need to get a life.

Also, Harvey will be missed.

And if that is not enough...

You should post the videos for all to see and laugh at the antics of T.Leaf, K$ and Jake A. (Just a thought)

j.smith - I would post the video, but I had a (really) unfortunate experience with youtube.

Although I'm sad others won't get to see Jake chucking the sprinkles at the cake!
