When December 31 rolled around last year, I was a little excited to turn 21—but, I can’t lie, I was mostly indifferent. Getting my Birthday Margarita from the Highland House wasn’t ranked very high on my “to do” list. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that I’m finally able to order wine with dinner! But since December, I’ve realized how turning 21 is no big deal at all…especially for those who sell alcohol.
In the two and a half months since my birthday, I’ve been carded four times. Four. But I was NOT carded at a
Wine store in Mequon
Bar at Orlando hotel
Rainforest Café
Bar at the Pfister
Italian Restaurant in Milwaukee
French Restaurant in Milwaukee
Middle Eastern Restaurant in Milwaukee
Seven! Seven alcohol venders didn't even glance at my ID before selling me alcohol. I’M FLATTERED THAT YOU THINK I LOOK 30, PEOPLE, but I think I still look 19. Please ask me for my card.
(I have to note that Piggly Wiggly cards me every time. Hands down. Kelly, too. Good job, guys.)

Wow...eleven times purchasing alcohol in 2 1/2 months!! Do you think you might have a problem??!! In the 20+ years since I turned 21, I have entered a liquor store precisely once and I think I've bought wine coolers twice at the grocery store. You might want to think "alcohol abstinence"...after all, look how good I turned out :)

Question for M-I-L: Did they give you your "special" discount when you bought those wine coolers? Or is that just at the card store?
You just had to come home with Kelly that weekend!! No, as I recall, I didn't get a "special" discount; however, I clearly remember getting carded.
I, as well, am amazed at this astonishing fact. I have not purchases alcohol at any stores since I have turned 21, but I have yet to be carded at ALL. I have been there for 2 of the places on this list and the third time I was given a free drink by a waiter trying to increase the tip I was to later give him. I think it is just a Milwaukee thing. We are the drunkest city you know.

I agree with M-I-L. I've only been carded at Ponderosa restaurants. (Senior discount)
Work on your school work. Since you will have June free, I'll check into AA for consultations.
M always
just wait til you get 50 !! AND they say "YOU have an ARRP card!!!--no way!)

Agreed! I'm usually annoyed when I don't get carded. The bar I've been "frequenting" (4 times) in Durham has never carded me (of course, at 23, I look well past my prime).
I blame Duke.
