Hey all. I need your input!
For my What is Truth? class, I need to do a movie review on a film that gives a unique presentation of truth. It needs to be one that contains "overt themes or underlying presuppositions regarding what is true and how we know what is true, and the subsequent effect such knowledge has on society and human behavior."
What would be a good movie to use? Suggestions? Some of the class examples include:
The Matrix (meh.)
What Dreams May Come
Total Recall
Whale Rider
A Beautiful Mind
The Sixth Sense
Any others come to mind?

I assume you were at least semi-desirous of Jordan input here.
Two from our collection:
Waking Life
I Heart Huckabees (LOVE!)
Would you like these movies? Not necessarily.
Should you watch them anyway? Yes.
Let me know if you want any details.
My picks would be:
Dead Poet's Society
Amistad
and
An Inconvenient Truth (if you haven't seen it yet... you should!)
Interesting assignment! Is your class REALLY called "What is Truth?" - I love that!
My first reccommendation would be "The Truman Show" with Jim Carrey. Amazing truth issues there. Others? Groundhog Day, The Wizard of Oz, It's a wonderful Life... if I think of any more, I'll let ya know! Groovy assigment!
Oooo....movies. We should watch it together on Wednesday night!! Oooo ya.... :-) How about:
*Mona Lisa's Smile
*Road to Perdition (I know you have this one!)
*The Illusionist (excellent movie about deciphering illusion vs. reality)
you should do it on a movie with something hot, maybe a conflagration? I would have to say that large fires are truthful in the sense that you just lost the word of the day game and you are sure to lose it again. FYI its 7:27.

You all are GREAT!!! Great suggestions!
Are there any eager beavers out there willing to just write this paper for me? :-)
I'll watch the movie for you, but I won't write the paper.
I don't write papers anymore. I grade them.
Came across your blog ... how about ...
Lord of War (w. Nicholas Cage)
Oddly enough, I think you could get away with using the Chronicles of Narnia movie as an example of what is truth. I mean they did spend years in Narnia. Although, this advice probably comes too late to be of any use. Good luck on that assignment anyway!
No no! It's not too late. (I have a month to pick this movie...)
I LOVE Narnia...and I agree, I think that would definitely be a valid choice.
I think one of the most fascinating would be Blade Runner. Heck, I'll write an outline for you if you'd like. Blade Runner was among the first movies that I saw during my formative years that really made me sit up and pay attention to the power that a movie has to make us think about truth, humanity, existence etc.
Plus Harrison Ford...
You really shouldn't keep us in suspense. We (your loyal readers) or at least I (one of your loyal readers) are/am dying to know what movie you actually did your presentation on, and how it went. please update??
Oooo! Sorry to keep my public waiting.
I decided on I *heart* Huckabees. You were right, Holly, I didn't like it, but it was perfect for truth class.
In the movie, two existentialist detectives (Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin) lead a guy in his quest for truth.
I wrote the report over Spring Break (quite a while ago, actually), but it's not due until this Thursday.
Thank you everyone for your help!
